  9. The APC BackUPS and SmartUPS product lines are compatible with LANtastic 
  10. NOS 4.xx and the LANtastic NOS 4.0 UPS monitoring utility (UPS.EXE).  The 
  11. BackUPS line includes APC product numbers BK400B, BK450, BK600, AP800, 
  12. AP1200, BK400I, BK600I, AP800I, and AP1200I.  The SmartUPS line includes 
  13. APC product numbers AP400, AP600, AP900, AP1250, AP2000, AP400I, 
  14. AP600I, AP900I, AP1250I, AP2000I.

  16. Product Overview
  17. The BackUPS and SmartUPS products can be used in conjunction with 
  18. LANtastic NOS 4.0's UPS.EXE (UPS monitoring utility), to safely shut-down a 
  19. server during a power failure.  APC provides a Serial Interface Kit (#940-0020) 
  20. that provides the hardware interface to signal the UPS.EXE utility at the time 
  21. of power loss, allowing the server program to safely shut down before the UPS is 
  22. depleted.  If  utility power returns before the server shuts down, the UPS will 
  23. signal the server again and the impending shut down will be canceled.  See the 
  24. LANtastic NOS 4.0 README.DOC file or the LANtastic 4.1 Upgrade Manual for 
  25. a complete description of the UPS.EXE utility.

  27. Product Installation Notes
  28. The UPS.EXE utility is automatically copied to the server's hard drive during 
  29. the LANtastic installation procedure.  Two basic steps are required to enable 
  30. UPS monitoring on the server: (1) Connect the UPS to an available serial port on 
  31. the server using the serial cable provided in APC's interface kit.  (2) Modify 
  32. the STARTNET.BAT (or other batch file that brings up the NOS) to include the UPS 
  33. utility.  For example, a batch file for a system using Artisoft's AE3 adapters 
  34. and with the UPS serial cable attached to COM 1 would look like this:
